About The Cure
The Cure were formed in 1976 in Crawley, England, by lead singer Robert Smith. Known for their innovative sound that spanned across post-punk, new wave, and gothic rock, The Cure achieved worldwide success with their moody, atmospheric music. The band's lineup shifted over the years, but Smith remained the constant driving force behind the group.
The Beef with The Smiths
Robert Smith of The Cure was often critical of Morrissey's persona. Although their music was quite different, the public beef between them was fueled by rivalry and perhaps jealousy of each other's success. Robert Smith reportedly felt that Morrissey's self-aggrandizing behavior didn't sit well with him, especially after he made comments about The Cure's audience. These remarks didn't help quell the tension between the two bands.
Despite this, there were moments of mutual respect between the two bands, but the animosity between them was undeniable throughout their careers.
